O Skin-Inject Derma Roller

Unless you are new to the Skin Care world (or living under a rock) you would have heard all the hype around Skin Needling and the benefits it has on the skin. Skin Needling, microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns by creating micro wounds to stimulate collagen production. Treatments can be performed professionally with a mechanised pen device or at home with a hand-held roller.

In this blog, I will be focusing on the home roller device and how you can achieve great results in the comfort of your own home; the benefits, how to correctly perform the treatment and other important need-to-know information.

What is it?

The O Skin-Inject Derma Roller by O Cosmedics utilises 600 gamma-sterilied (surgical grade), micro-needles to effectively and visibly stimulate the skin’s natural healing response. Independently rotating disks utilise an advanced silicone suspension system to provide the most comfortable treatment.

The Benefits of Rolling

The home roller device needles are much shorter (0.25mm in length) than those used in a professional treatment. As a result, improvements to the skin are typically seen with concerns of the outermost layer of the skin. When rolled over the skin, the micro needles create tiny channels on the surface. This action aerates the surface benefiting the skin in two ways: it oxygenates the skin to kill the presence of any bacteria and it increases the absorption of topical products.

Products you apply to the skin when rolling or immediately after will penetrate the skin's barrier and infuse deep into the layers of the skin, resulting in superior results. In fact, you can expect an increase of up to 200% of your home skin care when using the Derma Roller!

The needling action increases skin cell turnover and offers a form of exfoliation to the skin. This results in smoother, more hydrated skin. Regular rolling is extremely beneficial in correcting and maintaining skin health and immunity.

Your therapist will likely recommend the Derma Roller to use at home between professional Skin Needling treatments. At-home use of the Derma Roller will assist in Salon clinical treatments with the following concerns:

  • Scar reduction on face and body
  • Skin ageing and wrinkles
  • Pigmentation
  • Acne, pimples and congestion
  • Enlarged pores
  • Body stretch marks

In a nutshell, the benefits of using a Derma Roller home device are:

  • Oxygenates the skin
  • Improves skin immunity and health
  • Increases absorption and efficacy of skincare products by up to 200%
  • Increases skin cell turnover
  • Exfoliates the skin
  • Smooth, radiating skin
  • Hydrated, plump skin
  • Improves the results of professional Skin Needling treatments
  • Non-invasive with zero downtime

Directions for Use

It's important to follow the directions for use to ensure best results.

  • Begin by cleansing the skin with a gentle PH-balanced cleanser, we like O Cosmedics Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
  • Open the sterile device and roll over the face, neck and decolletage vertically, horizontally and diagonally in both directions in an asterisk pattern. Roll 4 - 6 times over the area in each direction, with a forward and back motion counting as 2 passes. The technique is very important. Visually splitting up your face into sections makes the whole process easier. Small passes will ensure a thorough treatment.

  • Once you’re finished rolling, apply your serums and hydrator to your skin.
  • Immediately clean your Derma Roller device post treatment by rinsing under hot water and shaking dry. Optional but recommended: Apply 3-4 sprays of Isopropyl, allow to dry and place back in original packaging.
  • As confidence is gained and to accelerate skin results, you can apply a corrective serum after cleansing and then roll over face, neck and décolletage before finishing with your hydrator. We recommend infusing products such as O Cosmedics 3D Hyaluronic, EGF Booster, B3 Plus or Concentrated Brightening Serum, depending on your skin concerns.

When beginning rolling, skins may react differently - slight redness, tingling or itching can be common until the skin becomes accustomed to the treatment. If you experience prolonged irritation, discontinue use and contact your O Cosmedics practitioner.

Treatment Frequency

It is recommended to roll at least 3 times per week or nightly for best results. Depending on the frequency of use, O Skin-Inject Derma Roller will last 4-6 months before a replacement is needed. As a guide, if the needles become dull and blunt, it's time for a replacement!

    Important Information

It should go without saying that the skin must be protected from UV exposure - always apply SPF daily and avoid direct sun exposure. We recommend O Cosmedics Mineral Pro SPF 30 or 50.

Microneedling can cause some potential side effects such as redness and skin irritation if used incorrectly. When conducting the procedure at home, you should listen to your skin. If it reacts negatively (eg. persistent redness, discomfort, or other unusual responses), stop the treatment immediately and consult with a healthcare professional.

** It is critical to never share your Derma Roller with anyone else to avoid cross-contamination and possible skin infections.

Derma rolling can be a beneficial at-home skin treatment with visibly impressive results. It is recommended that you consult with a professional before starting any type of microneedling treatment to ensure it's suitable for your skin and health condition.
