Why I chose a career in the beauty industry.

I chose to pursue a Diploma in Beauty Therapy 7 years ago after working in a few different retail jobs. The idea of turning my passion into a career was a no brainer and the opportunities are endless. Beauty gives you that opportunity to find a niche or explore all avenues, and you can work anywhere around the world. Everyone wants or needs their treatments and the great thing is, the beauty industry is here to stay.

Being a weekly spray tanner for as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a beauty therapist and do something I love and enjoy every single day, while helping other people along the way. After graduating beauty college, I was offered a job the very next day and have been doing it ever since. No two days are the same and that’s what I love… it never gets boring.

My time in the beauty industry so far has been amazing. With so many skincare products and treatments on offer today, I have learnt so much. Becoming a skin therapist and gaining the knowledge about skin health and skincare ingredients has been an absolute blessing as I now know how to take care of my own, which will now set my skin up for life. I can now share that knowledge with my friends, family and my clients, and help them along on their skin journey.

The biggest and best thing about performing beauty treatments is the confidence it gives to my clients. I know how amazing it feels to have a fresh set of lashes, a spray tan, smooth legs or clear skin. You feel good about yourself. So to be able to give that feeling to other people is extremely rewarding and the clients feel appreciative.

The other great thing about working in a beauty salon, is the wide range of people you get to meet every day. You get a mixed bag of clients and hear so many different stories. It keeps the day interesting and you get the chance to build a relationship with your regular clients.

If you’re considering a career in the beauty industry, there are so many aspects of what you can do in these fields that you are never limited to how far you want to go. From salons to spas to cruise ships. From teenagers getting their first wax, to high profile individuals through to a wide range of people you’ll meet in a career like this is so broad. It allows you to be creative, to be able to travel and the opportunity for self employment. There are always new advancements and trends and the chance to learn and practise highly specailised skills such as cosmetic tattooing and advanced skin therapies.

If you’re a people person with an interest in helping others then the beauty industry is perfect for you. The beauty world is your oyster!
