Skin In Your 30's

Are you dreading the big 3-0? Don't worry, your skin has got your back - or rather, your face! As you enter your third decade, your skin may start to show some signs of wear and tear, if you neglected your skincare routine in your 20s, your skin will let you know it. But fear not, my friend, with a little extra love and attention, you can keep your skin looking youthful and radiant.

In your 30’s Collagen and elastin production take a nosedive, leaving your skin looking less bouncy and dull. Plus, you might start to see spots appearing where they've never been before - blame genetics, hormones, and sun damage for those age spots. And just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, your skin decides to go full-on diva and get super dry, leaving you feeling flaky, itchy, and uncomfortable. Time to show your skin some love with some ceramide-packed skincare products, and give it the hydration it deserves!

There are plenty of things you can do to help it get back on track and look its best in your thirties. Here are some tips to help you combat the changes and keep your skin glowing and fabulous:

  1. Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is important at any age, but it becomes even more crucial as you move into your 30s and beyond. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and consider using a hydrating serum or mist to help lock in moisture.
  2. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise: As your skin becomes drier, it's important to use a good quality moisturiser that will help nourish and protect your skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides (fatty acids), which can help boost hydration levels and support your skin's barrier function.
  3. SPF is your BFF: Protecting your skin from sun damage is key to keeping it healthy and youthful-looking. Make sure to use a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 every day, even if it's cloudy or you're just running errands.
  4. Get your beauty sleep: Your skin repairs and regenerates itself while you sleep, so aim for 7-8 hours of quality shut-eye each night. Consider investing in a silk pillowcase to help prevent wrinkles and minimise friction on your skin.
  5. Embrace the power of skin treatments: From chemical peels to LED therapy to microneedling, there are plenty of professional skincare treatments that can help address specific concerns and keep your skin looking its best. Work with a skin therapist to find treatments that are safe and effective for your skin type and concerns.

First up, let's chat skin treatments:

We have the famous Skin Needling, which is a procedure where tiny needles are used to create micro-injuries on the skin. Sounds scary, right? But hear me out. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, which can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and give your skin a more youthful and plump look. Plus, it can also help with acne scars and pigmentation issues.

Next on the list is Chemical Peels, which use acids to remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter, smoother skin. They can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation, and improve overall skin texture. Just be prepared for possibly a day or two of downtime while your skin peels and reveals its fresh new self.

For those looking to combat pigmentation issues specifically, IPL (intense pulsed light) Skin Rejuvenation may be the way to go. This treatment uses light energy to target and break up pigmentation, leaving you with a more even complexion.

And last but not least, we have LED treatments. These use different wavelengths of light to help with a variety of skin concerns, including acne, fine lines, and inflammation. Plus, they're totally painless and require zero downtime.

That's a wrap on the treatments, now let's dive into what ingredients to look for.

One of the most crucial components of any effective skin care routine is the use of high-quality and beneficial ingredients, not all products are the same even though they may sound it. Here are some of the best skin care ingredients to consider incorporating into your regimen in your 30s:

  • Retinol: This vitamin A derivative is a powerhouse ingredient for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin texture, and promoting cell turnover. It can also help to combat hyperpigmentation and sun damage. It also has the ability to reverse some forms of cell damage. Retinol works by binding to specific receptors on the surface of cells, which triggers a signalling cascade that promotes cell growth and differentiation.
  • Vitamin C: This powerful antioxidant helps to brighten the skin, even out skin tone, and protect against environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. It also supports collagen production, helping to keep skin firm and plump.
  • Hyaluronic acid: As we age, our skin's natural moisture levels decrease, leading to dryness and the appearance of fine lines. Hyaluronic acid is a hydrating ingredient that helps to attract and retain moisture in the skin, promoting a plumper, more youthful-looking complexion.
  • Niacinamide: This vitamin B3 derivative is a versatile ingredient that can help to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, reduce redness and inflammation, and strengthen the skin barrier.
  • Peptides: These small chains of amino acids can help to boost collagen production, leading to firmer, more resilient skin. They can also help to improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
