Micro vs Peels

If your skin is looking dull, it may be time to book in an exfoliation treatment that can help take your skin to the next level. Two of our most popular treatments are peels and microdermabrasion. So, what’s the difference between microdermabrasion and peels?  I’m here to break down the key differences and similarities between the two to essentially help you decide which one best suit your skin.

Both treatments are a different form of exfoliation. Peels are a chemical form of exfoliation, and your microdermabrasion is physical form of exfoliation. The difference between these too is simple but effective in its own way.

A physical exfoliant aka your microdermabrasion, works on the outer layer of your skin also known as the stratum corneum. This is the skin you see when you look in the mirror. When you are doing a microdermabrasion treatment you are buffing away the dead layer of skin that sits on the outer layer.

A chemical exfoliation aka your peels are mainly designed to target the deeper layers of the skin. The peel you use will determine how deep into the skin the chemical exfoliant is able to travel. Whilst working on the lower levels of the skin it will still be able to help buff away any dead skin cells on the outer layer.

Both rejuvenation treatments are performed by beauty professionals and can target different skin issues such as congestion, acne, fine lines and wrinkles and they both achieve great results, with chemical peels working at a deeper level and micro working as a physical exfoliation. To those asking, yes.... you can do both treatments at the same time; however, it is best to talk to your skin therapist as it normally requires prepping the skin with active skincare and monthly professional treatments to get the skin ready for this advanced treatment approach.

To determine which facial treatment is best for your skin it’s best to talk to your skin therapist and to organise a skin consult to work out a skin plan. We are always up for a chat, and we love things all skin.
