Waxing Aftercare - Is it really important?

Yes it is! Waxing aftercare plays a huge role in the health of your skin post treatment which is why it is important to understand what to do / or not do post treatment. Waxing aftercare is essential to prevent ingrown hairs, infections and to improve your next wax by making sure you are looking after your waxed areas in the best way possible.

There is often confusion around what are the correct ways to be managing post wax home care, so here is it all explained.

Exfoliating

Exfoliating about 2-3 times a week will help remove the top dead layers of the skin.

Having a build up of dead skin cells on the surface can have the potential to trap hairs underneath the skin, so exfoliating often will guarantee a clean wax.

It is best to be using a physical mitt rather than scrubs, as we don’t want to be putting any harsh products into open follicles, as there is a risk of infection.

Moisturising

Moisturising every day will protect the skin from any irritation post wax but also will ensure your skin is nourished and hydrated.

Using a moisturiser with an antibacterial ingredient (such as tea tree) will also make sure that we are killing any infections that may be sparking up or are already present on the skin.

Moisturising also moisturises the follicle of the hair which is great because in future waxes your hairs will glide out, rather than being ripped out from the skin. Meaning waxing will become more comfortable for you.

In-between treatments

Leave your hairs alone. Shaving or tweezing in between your waxing appointments can hinder your results, as the hairs will start to grow back at different times. When this happens it can take a while for all the hairs to sync back up in order to have a clean wax. I know it may be tempting but leave hair removal up to the professionals!

It is also important to make sure you:

  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, public pools for at least 48 hours after to avoid cross infection.
  • Excessively sweat (during exercising) 48 hours after your wax, as sweat is a breading ground for bacteria.
  • Do not use harsh soaps or acid based products to avoid severe irritation to the freshly waxed area.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and sun beds.

Your therapist will always instruct you on how to take care of the area post wax and provide direction on what products to use on the skin  to look after the area but if you ever need guidance about what is best for you - we are always here to help!

My biggest intention when becoming a beauty therapist, was to ensure all clients feel valued. I always want to guarantee every client leaves feeling confident and educated. Every client should be treated as an individual and should be able to freely express their ambitions. I always clarify to each client that we are on this journey together, no matter how big or small their beauty goal is.
I love
IPL hair removal because of the long-term results. To be able to reduce a concern and insecurity for many clients, is the best outcome.
I am a country girl at heart. I enjoy getting down and dirty, riding my horses and being outside. I hope to one day have my own property filled with all sorts of rescue animals that I can care for.
